How to put Movies and Video on your PSP

Posted on Mar 3, 2008 12:53:27 AM

PSP movies vidoesSony’s PSP is a real electronic wizard in the hand held entertainment world and there really isn’t too much that it can’t do. One great thing that I and others use their PSP for is watching movies!

But I later realised that not everyone knows how to download movies to a PSP! It’s not as hard as people seem to think so hopefully once you’ve read this article you’ll know how to put videos on your PSP.

The first thing that you need to know about how to put videos on PSP is you need enough free memory on your memory stick. You are going to need to buy as big a memory stick as you can afford. I have a 1GB stick but 512mb is going to be the bare minimum to store the movie files.

The second essential is to have a computer handy which you can connect your PSP to via a USB cable. An internet connection will be useful too, but is not essential unless there are still things you need to download.

The third thing is that PSPs can only play movies that are in MP4 format. Before you upload any video media to your PSP, you’re going to need to convert any files that aren’t MP4.

There are a bunch of free media converters out on the internet so you might want to just Google “free mp4 movie converter”.

Once you have your MP4 files, you’re ready to upload them to your PSP.

    1. Connect the computer and the PSP together with your USB cable, making sure that the PSP is switched off to begin with, and switch the PSP on once the connection is made.

    2. With the PSP go into the SETTINGS menu, and look for the USB connection option and press X, which will link your PSP to the computer. If you then go into MY COMPUTER on the computer, you should see an extra volume has been attached. This is inside the PSP/Playstation Portable’s memory card.

    3. Open the PSP memory card and then open the folder called PSP. With this open you need to create another folder inside that one, this one called “MP_ROOT” and then another one called “100mnv01″.

    4. Save the movies you want to watch in the folder “100mnv01″ and then you are ready to rock!

The movies can be started by clicking on the saved image inside the memory card. Remember that the movies need to be in MP4 format (Google it if you don’t understand), and if you want to convert your existing DVDs etc to this format you may need to get some specialized software.

Alrighty! There we are, how to put movies on PSP in 4 easy steps!
